The one thing that I still can’t get my head around is how someone can continue doing the exact same thing to you after you’ve told them that it’s hurting you.
How they could continue doing it but with the knowledge that they’re now hurting you when they do it.
I used to constantly explain to the person who was once in my life exactly what they were doing, how deeply it was affecting me, and how much it hurt. And yet, despite them knowing exactly where the pain was coming from, they continued doing the same things over and over again with the knowledge that it was hurting me.
And each time, I would raise it again, I'd try to explain it a little clearer, and again they would just continue to do what I’d begged and pleaded with them not to do.
It’s not that they didn’t understand; it’s that they just didn’t care.
When someone does this they are not naive, they are not confused, and they are not unaware; they know exactly what they are now doing.
And when they tell you that they’re sorry but then repeat what they’re meant to be sorry for, that is manipulation. Not only that but they’re also demonstrating just how much of a disrespectful person they really are.
I wish I could say this only happened once or twice, but it repeatedly happened over and over again.
I remember being so confused and questioning myself and whether or not I was asking for too much, because this was the very same person who went out of their way to tell people how kind they were, how much of an empath they were, and they even had the audacity to call themselves “pure.”
But it turns out I wasn’t asking for too much; I was just asking for the bare minimum amount of respect and decency.
Someone who is genuinely kind, empathetic, and pure, does not keep doing something once they’ve been told time and time again that it’s upsetting someone.
People are not who they say they are!
Words only portray who someone pretends to be, or who they want people to believe they are; it’s their actions that show you who they really are.
And when someone keeps hurting you with the full knowledge that they’re hurting you, that meets the definition of abuse whether that be emotional or physical, so believe their actions no matter what!
Believe what they are showing you because that’s the kind of person they really are.
And if they really were a good, decent, kind, empathetic person, they’d care about the impact of their actions and behaviours on you, along with how they’ve made you feel.
You would not need to keep having to re-explain your pain all the time.
No matter how beautiful someone’s words sound, always believe what they show you.
Words can be used to manipulate, but character is always revealed by what they actually do.
